Naomi was the first person I called when I found the second phone.

It was taped under the lip of Daniel's desk drawer, a cheap thing with one number saved in it, and I sat on the office floor with it buzzing in my palm like a trapped insect. I called Naomi before I even called my husband. That was how it had always been. Twenty-two years of friendship will do that to you.
