I woke at 4:11 in the morning soaked through my shirt, the dream still playing behind my eyes like a film I hadn't agreed to watch.

In it, Daniel was sitting on the edge of our bed with his back to me, thumbs moving across his phone in the blue dark. I could see the screen over his shoulder the way you can in dreams, impossibly clear. He was typing to a woman named Renata, the ex he'd dated before me, the one whose name he hadn't said aloud in six years. The messages weren't vague. They were specific. *I still think about that weekend in the cabin. You ruined me for everyone after you.* And her reply, easy and familiar: *Then why did you marry her.*

I lay there listening to him breathe beside me, slow and innocent, and I told myself it was just a dream. Stress. The wine. The fight we'd had on Tuesday about nothing. People don't get evidence from their sleep.

But here is the thing nobody tells you about intuition. It doesn't arrive as a thought. It arrives as a temperature. For three weeks something in me had been running cold and I'd kept turning up the thermostat of my own reassurance, explaining away the way he angled his phone toward his chest, the new passcode, the gym bag that came home dry. My mind had built a comfortable little house. My body had been standing outside it, knocking.

I didn't sleep again. I made coffee in the gray light and watched him shuffle into the kitchen, kiss the top of my head, ask if I'd had bad dreams because I looked wrecked. I said no. I have never lied to him before. It felt like crossing a border.

He left his phone on the counter when he went to shower. The water came on. I stood over it the way you stand at the edge of cold ocean, knowing the second you go in there's no version of the day where you stayed dry.

His thumbprint had always unlocked for me. It still did.

I went straight to the messages, and there she was. Renata. The thread was buried in an archived folder, but I knew the shape of it before I opened it because I had already read it once, at 4:11 that morning, in the dark, in my own head.

*I still think about that weekend in the cabin.* Word for word. Her answer about why he married me, sitting there in gray text bubbles, three weeks deep, the timestamps marching back to the exact night the cold had first crept into my chest.

I am not a mystical person. I don't read horoscopes. But I have stopped arguing with the part of me that knew. It had been screaming for nearly a month while I politely asked it to keep its voice down.

The shower was still running when I set the phone back exactly where he'd left it, screen down, the way he liked it. I wanted one more minute of being a woman he thought he'd fooled. I wanted to choose the moment, the way my sleep had chosen it for me.

I picked up my coffee. My hands were perfectly steady. For the first time in three weeks, I wasn't cold at all.
