She didn't die. A broken femur, a long recovery. I sat in the police station feeling almost weightless.

And Daniel — Daniel came apart. Not with horror for what I'd done. Not with shame. He raged at me for ruining Lena, because Lena, it turned out, had been more than a mistress.
