彼は家族のアカウントを、あの女の子どもたちに譲った

It was a Tuesday, and the only war I expected that night was over which cartoon to fall asleep to.

The kids were bathed, hair still damp, smelling like the strawberry stuff that costs too much. I had the blanket arranged just right across the three of us on the couch, the good throw, the one I save for nights when I want to feel like a real family instead of a logistics company with a shared last name. My daughter pressed the remote into my hand like it was a ceremony. I opened the streaming app.

It logged me out.

Not a glitch. A clean, deliberate screen. "This account has been signed out of all devices." I laughed, actually, because Yusuf was always too lazy to manage these things, and I assumed he'd done something dumb with the password. I typed it in. Wrong. I typed it in slower, the way you do when you're sure your fingers are the problem. Wrong.

So I clicked reset. And that's when the world tilted.

The recovery email wasn't mine. It wasn't Yusuf's. It was a string of letters I half-recognized and couldn't place. The phone number on the account ended in digits that weren't ours. And when I finally got in through Yusuf's saved login on the laptop, I sat there in the blue glow and stared at a family that wasn't my family.

The profiles were gone. My name, gone. My son's little dinosaur avatar, gone. My daughter's profile that she'd renamed "Princess Captain" eleven times, gone. In their place were new ones. Two kids' profiles I didn't know. A profile that just said *Zoe*, with a photo I'd never seen of a woman laughing at something off-camera.

I told the kids the TV was broken. I tucked them in with a story I made up out loud because I couldn't hold a book steady. Then I went into the billing page.

The card on file had been changed. The plan had been upgraded to the most expensive tier, the one with four screens, and the account name at the top, the name the whole thing belonged to now, was hers. Zoe was the administrator. Zoe controlled the password. Zoe decided who got let in and who got locked out.

He hadn't just cheated. He had taken something small and domestic and ours, a thing built around bath nights and bad cartoons, and he had handed the keys to her. So *her* kids could watch. So her household would have its four screens. He had gone into the settings of our life and quietly demoted me to a stranger trying to recover access.

I didn't cry that night. I think I was too busy doing math. Not money math. Loyalty math. The arithmetic of how long it takes a man to decide that another woman's children deserve the thing he set up for his own, and to do it so cleanly that he didn't even bother to tell me, because he assumed I'd never sit down on a Tuesday and reach for the remote.

When he came home I was at the kitchen table with the laptop open to the billing page.

He saw the screen before he saw my face. That's how I knew. A guilty man looks at the evidence first. He started with "it's not what it looks like," which is the sentence men say when it is exactly what it looks like. Then it spilled out in ugly pieces. Zoe. Months. Her two kids. How "it just made sense" for her to manage it because she was "more organized." How he "didn't think it would matter to me." That one I'll keep forever. He didn't think it would matter that he gave my children's account, and my place in it, to her.

"They're just kids," he said, meaning hers. "They wanted to watch their shows."

"So do ours," I said. And I watched it not land. I watched him not understand that those were two different sentences to him now. Ours and theirs. He'd already drawn the line. I'd just found the map.

I changed the locks before I changed the password, in that order, on purpose. I called a lawyer the next morning while the kids ate cereal and asked why the TV still wasn't fixed, and I told them we'd watch on my phone for a while, like a treat, like camping.

Here's the clarity, the part that came later, sharp and cold and almost a relief. An affair is a betrayal of a marriage. But this was a betrayal of administration. He didn't get swept away by passion in some grand, stupid moment. He sat down, calmly, on some ordinary afternoon, and reassigned our family's permissions. He looked at the people I made with him and decided they ranked below hers.

You can forgive a man for falling. It's harder to forgive one who, while falling, remembered to update the billing.
