The doorbell rang at 2:17 on a Tuesday. I wasn't expecting anything, but when I opened the door, a young man in a green vest was stacking brown paper bags on my porch like he was building a fort. Five bags. Then six. Then a cardboard box.

"Instacart," he said, handing me a receipt. "Have a good one."

I stared at the pile. I hadn't ordered groceries. Matt handles the shopping, and he was at work. I checked the receipt: forty-seven items, total $214.56. Delivered to 1427 Maple Lane. That was my house. But the name on the order was Matt's.

I dragged the bags inside, my mind spinning. Maybe he'd ordered a surprise? But we weren't the type for surprises—our anniversary was in April, and it was November. I opened the first bag: two boxes of tampons, the kind I don't use. I don't use tampons. I use pads. And these were a specific brand, something organic and expensive I'd never bought.

Second bag: a bottle of Pinot Noir, the $45 one Matt always jokes is overpriced. He drinks beer. Third bag: a wheel of brie, a box of fancy crackers, dark chocolate truffles. Fourth bag: a pink card with glittery letters that read "Happy Anniversary."

My hands went cold. I opened the card. Inside, a handwritten note in Matt's messy scrawl: "To the woman who changed my life. Two years, and I'm still falling for you. Love, M."

Two years. Matt and I had been married for fourteen. I sank onto the kitchen stool. The receipts on the Instacart app—I pulled up his account on the shared iPad, the password saved from when he'd asked me to add a tip months ago. I scrolled through the order history. This was the first one in weeks, all to our address. But there was a saved address under "Favorites": 1832 Willow Court, Apartment 4B. I recognized that complex—it was across town, the one with the garden courtyards.

He'd meant to send this there. He'd typed in our address by accident, the muscle memory of home overriding the mistress's apartment.

I didn't cry. I just sat there, looking at the tampons and the wine and the card. I imagined her opening the door to this delivery. Her name I didn't know. Her face I didn't know. But I knew she used organic tampons and liked expensive wine, and she'd been with my husband for two years.

I put everything back in the bags. I left them in the kitchen. I waited.

Matt walked in at 6:14, keys jingling. He saw the bags. His face went white. Not a gradual fade—a flash, like someone turned off all the blood.

"What's this?" he asked, his voice too high.

"Your Instacart order," I said. "It came here by mistake."

He opened his mouth, closed it. Opened again. "I—I don't know—"

"The tampons aren't mine. The wine isn't mine. The Happy Anniversary card isn't mine. She's been with you for two years."

He didn't deny it. He didn't even try. He just dropped his briefcase and said, "I'm sorry."

"Don't," I said. "Just take the groceries to her. She's waiting."

He didn't move. I grabbed the bags one by one and shoved them into his arms until he was holding them all, the card sticking out of the top. I opened the front door. The night air was cold.

"Go," I said. "Deliver them properly this time."

He stepped outside. I closed the door and locked it. Through the window, I watched him stand on the porch for a full minute, the bags shifting in his arms, before he walked to his car.

I didn't move. I just stood there, my hand on the lock, feeling the cold metal against my palm. The house was quiet. The kitchen was clean. And the anniversary card—the one that wasn't mine—was gone.
