The first thing I noticed was the candle.
Lena would leave on a Saturday morning, gone for three, sometimes four hours, and come back with a single scented candle or a pack of dish sponges she didn't need. The receipts told the same story every week: eleven dollars, fourteen dollars, one item, occasionally none at all. She'd say the lines were brutal, the parking lot was a war zone, that she'd gotten talking to someone.
