Marcus came home the color of old dishwater.
He'd been on the road since dawn, some sales loop through three counties, and somewhere between a gas station burrito and the last exit he'd picked up a stomach bug that folded him in half. He stumbled through the door, mumbled something about a bad lunch, and went straight up to bed without taking off his shoes. I heard the mattress groan, then the bathroom, then silence. I brought him crackers and a sleeve of antacids and left them on the nightstand. He didn't even open his eyes.
