I ordered the test because of a soup recipe.

My grandmother had died that winter, and at the funeral one of her sisters mentioned an old village none of us had ever heard of, somewhere our family supposedly came from three generations back. I wanted to know if it was true. I wanted a small, harmless fact to hold onto. So I bought one of those saliva kits on a whim, spat into the little tube at my kitchen counter while my husband, Daniel, laughed and said I'd just find out I was the same boring mix as everyone else.
