For eleven years, the loudest thing in our marriage was the dishwasher.
That is what I keep coming back to. We were not a dramatic couple. Daniel left for the office at seven, came home at six, and on Sundays he cooked the one meal he knew how to make and acted like it was a gift from heaven. We had a daughter, a mortgage, a dog with a bad hip, and a family group chat that never stopped buzzing. My mother sent good-morning flowers. His father sent fishing photos. Somebody was always organizing a birthday or arguing about whose turn it was to host.
