It was a Tuesday, and Tuesdays in our house were dull in the best possible way.
Daniel had fallen asleep on the sofa around ten, one sock half off, the muted television throwing blue light across his face. I remember thinking, with the small private tenderness you only feel after nine years of marriage, that he looked younger asleep. I covered him with the throw blanket his mother had knitted us as a wedding gift and went up to bed with my book and a cup of chamomile going cold on the nightstand.
