I was in a hotel room in Phoenix, reviewing quarterly reports, when my phone buzzed with a notification from the health app I shared with my husband, Mark. It was 8:03 AM, and the app cheerfully informed me: "New weigh-in recorded: 108.4 lbs."
I frowned. Mark and I had bought the Wi-Fi scale two years ago as a joint wellness project. He weighed around 200; I hovered at 145. Neither of us had ever hit triple digits below 140.
